Chiropractic Help for a Comfortable Pregnancy

Pregnancy brings with it a lot of strains to a woman’s body. As any Burnsville, MN mom can attest, as the baby grows, the lower back increases it’s curvature and adds pressure to the pelvis. If a woman already suffers from back pain, the discomfort is worse. Regular chiropractic care can help relieve the pain and discomfort.


Studies show low back pain is prevalent in about half of all pregnancies. Utilizing chiropractic care throughout the pregnancy can prevent this pain and discomfort. It also helps to alleviate the other pains, which often develop when part of the body is miss-aligned.


Although the pregnancy hormones allow the muscles around the pelvis to loosen, they also allow the pelvis to miss-align more easily, which can limit the room for the baby to grow and increase the risk of a breech birth. Chiropractic care during pregnancy helps maintain proper pelvis positioning, which leads to better birthing outcomes. With a balanced pelvis, the baby has a greater chance of moving through the birth channel in the correct position.


The American Chiropractic Association recommends:

  • Getting plenty of safe exercise, like swimming, walking and stationary bike in a secure footing area.
  • Wear flat sensible shoes.
  • When picking-up children or heavy items, bend from the knees, not the waist.
  • Get plenty of rest.
  • Sleep on your side with a pillow between your knees to take pressure off your lower back.
  • If you sit at a desk for long periods of time, make sure your workspace is ergonomic.
  • Eat small meals or snacks every four to five hours to help keep nausea at bay.
  • Getting at least 400 micrograms of folic acid from supplements or food has shown to minimize the risk of several birth defects.
